Today (3 November) is Adam Ant's birthday, or so I've been told. In honour of that, I decided to make a new LJ/DW mood theme. I thought some of the other fans here might get a kick out of it, so I'm sharing it. If anything doesn't work, please let me know, it was somewhere between very late at night and very early in the morning when I uploaded all of this fun stuff.

Follow the fake cut to find all the juicy mood theme details!

First:, the article:

While trying to find a tutorial on how to make the Dandy Highwayman's waistcoat (my friends and I are all going as various incarnations of Adam for Halloween... I was lucky enough to pick the costume with the world's most intricate embroidered vest) I stumbled across an article that made me smile. Like most Antfans, I'm sure, I've been avidly reading about his current tour (and praying he eventually makes it back to the United States now that I'm old enough to take myself to the concerts, without my parents) and I've been worrying about the mixed reviews he's been getting. But, this article (from just this weekend, in fact) definitely makes it seem like he's back on his A-game! He may have slowed down in his older age, but at least he's still having fun!

The Dandy Highwayman is back on tour and quite frankly back on form.

And now, the plea:

I am almost finished with my costume! I have the leather pants, the black pirate blouse, the black cape and the hat. I've even got both belts, a million feet of scarf, and four gaudy rings shaped like skulls. All that's left is the white vest, which I know I'm going to have to make because there's no way in the world someone out there has one for sale. So! Anyone have any tips on where to find a simple pattern for the waistcoat? My sewing skills are mediocre, and my cutting skills are a bit crooked... but I'm willing to give just about anything a shot.

Here's a reference photo, in case you've forgotten what I'm talking about.

So, hi! It's been a while since I posted here (despite this being my own community, ahaha...). Sorry for not being an active mod, but you'll know why from my previous post here.

Fortunately, I'm suddenly feeling better about the whole Adam-gigging-again thing because I've seen lots of Antfans (such as the poster below me) reporting happily on his recent performances. After a rocky start, it seems Mr. Ant is impressing audiences once again. :) Maybe he's doing better after all?

In celebration, here are some recent photos I've scavenged from the net. Let's start off with a photo comparison...

The rest under heerree. )
He's looking fuckin' good for a senior citizen—for anyone really.

Any good performance videos around, Antfans?
Share them in the comments if you like.

Adam thanks you for your time.

Ant Lib Online made a post about Adam's interview in The Sun a month ago or so. Although Ant Lib ends the entry with "Good luck with the new album, Adam", they also ask these questions of readers:

Are you staying away from future live shows? Is Adam right to dismiss Marco's contribution to Antmusic? Or is this interview merely evidence that Adam is clearly unwell?

I for one am feeling pissed he's acting out this way, spitting in Marco's face so to speak. Who knows what happened between them, but... yeah.

In other bitterly written news, The Family of Noise fansite is closing down. A part of their goodbye message that I found particularly significant:

Nobody could have predicted the amount of public activity Adam has undertaken this past year, nor the way many Ant Fans have felt as a result. What could have been a triumphant return of Antmusic, has instead moved many longtime Ant Fans to give up on the modern day Adam.

The Family of Noise could have been thrashing out news items left, right and centre, but instead has been left with feelings of apathy and embarrassment, and no longer feels a desire to promote Adam Ant.

I'm afraid I have to agree with The Fam. I haven't updated here forever 'cause I'm kinda just waiting for Adam to get a hold of himself. I feel pretty presumptuous saying this, and I don't have a place to at all I know, but I don't think he's totally okay yet, and I think he should probably be spending time with family and friends right now. I mean, bashing Marco? I'm gonna go listen to "Day I Met God" now...

What do you think of 2010/11 Adam, if you have an opinion?

Ant Lib also posted (with a picture and a video) about a free acoustic show Adam did about 3wks. ago on Jan. 5th. See the post here.

I just thought I'd share this. It's just the design page for a Dandy  cosplay costume.  If anyones interested i'd be happy to share progress on the adventure as I put it together.

If the image messes with peoples screans I can put it under a cut.

Cheers!

To quote directly from Ant Lib Online

One month after his most recent admittance to hospital, Adam Ant is back on the town. Attending the invitation-only launch party for Mark Powell's latest store in Soho last Thursday, Adam mixed with the likes of Paul Weller, Martin Freeman and old punk pal Chris Sullivan (pictured, right).

Looking fresh-faced from his 28 day stay at 'Her Majesty's Pleasure', Adam was also spotted in Chelsea at the weekend jamming at a local bar - fuelling speculation that he may be returning to London's underground live circuit in the coming months.

From the hundreds messages we received on news of Adam's recent hospitalisation, fans are generally hoping Adam will take it a bit easy for a while and not rush a comeback this time around.

You can see their little pic in the original post by clicking the above link.

I for one agree with the "hundreds of messages": Adam should definitely relax for a while!

So, I come bearing some really bad news. Although there are numerous reports of this on the internet of course, I think what's best is to just quote directly from some fellow fans, Ant Lib Online:

Adam Ant has been sectioned under the Mental Health Act 1983 following reports of an incident yesterday (Tuesday 18 May) evening.

Last week, the UK press reported controversy surrounding Adam's appearance at the Oasis, Portsmouth on Monday 10 May. Adam has since returned to London where he performed with his live band at Paper Dresstival, Curtain Road, EC2 on Saturday 15 May. Adam is currently undergoing initial psychiatric assessment and more details will follow when appropriate.

Most importantly, here's a message from Adam to his fans, which apparently began circulating yesterday:

Ant fans - please send me postcards at the Chelsea & Westminster Hospital, Fulham Road. Please dont come down here as it may upset the staff who have been really pleasant. I am having a well earn rest at Her Majesty's pleasure and am painting and continuing being an art student. I have a great view and am considering gigs later in the year. x

No one really knows exactly what happened at the gig that prompted all this, except that apparently he shouted "obscenities" directed mainly at "Christians" on stage. I don't give a fuck about Christians either, Adam.

Ant Lib also says you can use their Contact Form to send Adam messages of support, but I'm not sure where they'll send any messages they get. To Adam's management?

I'm going to go be depressed now...

What do you want Adam's new music to sound like?
Punk-y, back to his roots.
Glitter and pop!
Mature and probably acoustic, like Wonderful.
SOMETHING ENTIRELY, ENTIRELY DIFFERENT!
Country and western.
I don't care, as long as it's new!

On April 30th, Adam and his new band played at the Scala again, selling the place out. Information from Ant Lib Online:

Playing an eighty-one minute live set of punk favourites and pop hits, Adam managed to contradict earlier rumours of a 45 minute show of sixties rock 'n' roll covers. Thankfully, the 1200 Ant fans in attendance weren't disappointed by another no-show, although some may have left the venue a little bemused by Adam's own take on Jackanory at the end...

Adam's set list: Cock in My Pocket (Iggy Pop cover) / Get It On (T-Rex cover) / Antmusic / Red Scab / Beat My Guest / Vive Le Rock / Goody Two Shoes / Kings of the Wild Frontier / Apollo 9 / Physical. Encore: It Doesn't Matter / Stand & Deliver / Prince Charming / Kick / Shakin' All Over (Johnny Kidd & the Pirates cover).

Their 'Highlights' video:

This is his best performance yet, judging by the video, I think! :)

Adam-ant.net also shared six new pictures from the Scala show:

Epic.

The rest under here! )

P.S: The blonde girl in his band is Tree Carr, a singer/actress, in case any of you wonder about who she is like I did.
